Spring Paper Chain

“Mommy, we cut paper and made chains!  Mine broke a couple times, but it was really fun!”

Oh, the sweet excited voices of my boys over the phone as they called to share the fun they were having at Grandma and Grandpa’s house during Spring Break!

The boys love doing crafts and activities.  And Grandma is so good at finding fun things for them to do.  In fact, when they found out they were going to stay with my parents a few days, Dylan told me he was excited that Grandma was going to do crafts with them!

While I knew the boys made paper chains, what I didn’t expect was long beautiful chains made from strips of double-sided scrapbook paper in lovely spring colors.  I was wowed… not at the idea of the chain, but at how pretty they were.  And at how much time my boys (and mom) put into making them.

The boys (with mom’s help) were allowed to use the sliding paper cutter to cut their own strips… which they were ecstatic about!  Then they taped the ends to form the loop.

With all the hard work and pride in their project, this was one we just had to display. But where on earth do you find a place to hold two 8-foot chains? I discovered that by swagging the chain over the curtain rod, that the boys’ beautiful creation looked right at home over our large living room window!

Sometimes with the endless ideas on Pinterest, I think we forget the beauty and the joy in the simplest of crafts.
